The Low Carbon Schools Project aligns with the United Nations Greening Education Partnership. The UN Greening Education Partnership draws upon the ‘Education for Sustainable Development’ approach that aims to inspire action from countries to empower learners with the skills required for inclusive and sustainable economic development. The schools in East Malaysia have shown exemplary leadership towards low-carbon and sustainable development. By implementing actions to reduce GHG emissions and improve resource efficiency across various school facilities and infrastructure, such as water supply, wastewater, solid waste, transportation, electricity supply, and green cover, among others, the schools aim to achieve holistic sustainability development. By imparting climate change education to students and adopting sustainable practices on school premises, the schools are adopting a hands-on approach to nurture a generation of climate conscious citizen. Showcasing the achievements and best practices from schools will inspire other schools in Malaysia and the ASEAN region to take action to combat climate change.
Key Partners: GGAF, GGGI, ICLEI South Asia, and BIMP-EAGA Korea Cooperation Fund.
